If you want to know how to go to sleep faster, there are a few things you can start with, even tonight, that will help you to get that sleep you need, and without rolling around twisting the bed covers before that happens.

Don't fall into the trap of waiting until you are sleepy. This is one of the biggest mistakes people make. They feel like since they are going to lie in bed awake they may as well just stay up a little while longer until they are feeling sleepy enough to drop right off.

Food. You shouldn't eat any substantial amount of food within 3 hours of bedtime, it will effect your sleep.

Exercise. You should get 30-60 minutes of exercise during the day, and this will help your body be able to sleep when it comes time for bedtime. However, you shouldn't exercise within 3 hours of going to sleep.

In addition, it is alright to take a cup of warm tea some couple of minutes before bedtime; this will help relax the body and reduce body temperature. Alternative, you can take a glass of juice or warm milk depending on what you have. Bear in mind that a perfect atmosphere for sleep should be at room temperature.

The best natural sleep aid is not alcohol and is not a drug. It is anything natural that will help you get to sleep sooner and faster. It also have to be something that will have you waking up feeling refreshed and not waking up feeling like you have a hang over and could barely get through the next day. This is not how you want to wake up and this will not be good for you if it makes you feel terrible in the morning.

The brain has to direct a large amount of blood to the digestive tract in order to produce the necessary enzymes that aid digestion.
