Skin Rashes - Causes and Treatments

By Arnold Davies Blog at 2011-01-08 03:43:42
Skin rashes often manifest themselves as dry, flaky patches that can be red, swollen and inflamed. Left untreated, skin rashes can spread and become infected. Often a result of skin disease such as dermatitis, psoriasis, or dandruff, skin rash can be treated by use of moisturizing skin care products that penetrate to deep dermal layers where rashes often begin.

Allergic skin rashes can occur anywhere on the body. Most commonly these rashes occur at the region which comes in contact with the allergen. The severity of the reaction depends on the sensitivity of the person to the allergen. The skin is a natural barrier protecting our internal organs. It acts as our first line of defense.

Another reason for skin irritations is dry skin it happens when you are too dehydrated or when the climate is way too hot. A skin can lose its moisture anytime if you neglect to be concerned by it. You will know you have rashes due to dehydration if your skin becomes reddish and you develop spots over some part of your body.

One of the rarest skin conditions is Harlequin Itchthyosis, and this condition is a birth defect and is visible when an affected infant is born. The disorder is caused by an abnormal gene, named ABCA12. Medications and intensive medical care right after birth has increased the survival rate of these infants substantially, but there is no cure and medications are usually needed for life.

Sometimes it is hard for a physician to diagnose what exactly may have caused the skin to break out into hives or a different form of dermatitis. Often a patient will cite several situations that happened at the same time. For instance, someone with a rash can mention that they had hiked in the woods, used a different laundry detergent and recently had strep throat. Any one of these situations could lead to rash symptoms.

People afflicted with this type of rash may also have allergies but most cases of this type of rash are not the result of an allergic reaction. This type of rash is not contagious even though spread patterns may make it apear as though it is.

These kinds of skin rashes are caused because of a certain food or contact with a particular substance or material. Some people are allergic to certain kinds of fabric while others are to nickel containing jewelry or poison ivy. Some people even have skin allergies from animal dander. The best bet to avoid such rashes is to know what exactly triggers the rash and stay away from these catalysts.

If the Vaginal area is affected it, may be a yeast infection. The symptoms may be redness in the area and pain during urination or sex. There are over the counter remedies such as Monistat, but it is best to see a doctor. Over two-thirds of the medicine purchased over-the-counter for yeast infections do not help because the diagnosis was wrong.

There are also skin rashes that develop from illness. Chicken pox, shingles, measles, scabies, hand-foot and mouth disease and roseola are all types of illness that affect the skin. If your rash is accompanied by a fever, chills, fatigue, headache or muscle aches, then you may have a rash due to illness. Some of these conditions are contagious so you should see a doctor for diagnosis and treatment.

Many times, people are a product of genetics. Oily skin is often hereditary and excess oil tends to cause skin irritations. These irritations come in the form of acne, eczema, and rash blotches. Some women will apply cosmetics heavily on your skin in hopes of hiding the rash. The chemicals in the cosmetics will make the condition worse. It is best to consult a profession cosmetologist to help you find the best products for your skin.
