Tips to Prevent Ingrown Hair

By Arnold Davies Blog at 2011-02-01 03:42:49
Are you one of the thousands of people that are affected by ingrown hairs and razor burns when you shave? Severe razor burns, razor or shaving bumps, inflamed follicles are painful and go hand in hand with shaving. These symptoms are very common skin problems that need to be relieved and treated for the prevention of further problems.

Ingrown hairs are never fun for anyone to have, especially if they are in a noticeable place. Ingrown hairs usually leave a small bump on the skin and often times the bump is red. That is a big reason for some people to use heat to prevent ingrown hairs.

Get a waxing kit. It is highly recommended to use hard wax for the bikini line since the hair is coarse. Hard wax (check price ranges) goes on smooth, but stiffens so it will not need a strip to be taken off. The next instructions are for the application of hard wax.

If it's too late and you have got ingrown hair then you must be really careful so you don't infect it in anyway. When you can see a red angry bump/spot you must get a washcloth dip it in hot water and let it dry, so its hasn't got any bacteria on it.

Then get the washcloth and dab it on you ingrown hair till the hair comes up. And then get a good pair of tweezers and pluck out the hair, make sure to be careful and not to pull out any skin cells. And lastly, don't wear tight clothing as your skin will need space to breath. If everything fails consult you doctor.

An ingrown hair occurs when the new hair grows sideways into the skin or back down into the skin rather than breaking through the surface and growing freely. This happens more often for people that have curly hair because the bristles naturally want to curve towards the skin.

Some hair can grow right beneath the surface of the skin, and that can be easily seen, and tackled with. These types of hair can be brought out with tweezers, if it is caught between the bump. If it becomes difficult, it means that the hair is still strongly wedged into the skin. The best way out is to wait for the bump to heal itself. Once it does, you can pull the hair off - it usually does not take more than a day or two.

A great natural solution to ingrown hair is using a salt solution. Try adding one cup of water and around 2 tea spoons of salt. Then take a cotton swab and apply to the area. You must then allow the solution to dry naturally without washing it off. This will cleanse the skin and exfoliate the area.

Shaving too closely to the skin will actually promotes ingrown hair problems. The stubs left behind have more of a chance to get trapped in the hair follicle. Shaving too close also pulls and tugs at the skin which may actually push hair stubs into the pores deeper.

Removing dead skin cells allows an effective removal procedure because the skin is free of oil and other debris that can hinder the effectiveness of the wax. Continuous exfoliation after undergoing facial hair waxing is definitely necessary to prevent dead skin cells from blocking the pores where hair grows. This will allow the hair to grow in an upward direction instead of moving back into your skin.
